Servers

Overview

In MSPControl, a server represents a physical or virtual Windows machine where the MSPControl Server component is installed. Registered servers provide services such as web hosting, mail, FTP, databases, and other configured workloads.

Before you begin

• Install the MSPControl Server component on the target machine.
• Record the Server component URL and the authentication password configured during installation.
• Confirm network access between the Enterprise Server and the target Server endpoint.

Add a server

1. Open the server list. Go to Settings → Servers.
2. Start registration. Select Add Server.
3. Enter a recognizable name. Use a stable identifier such as Webhost01 or MailServerA.
4. Enter the Server component URL. For example, use the configured HTTPS hostname and port. Prefer a trusted HTTPS endpoint over an unencrypted IP address.
5. Enter the authentication password. Enter and confirm the password configured for the Server component.
6. Choose software detection when appropriate. Enable Search Installed Software if MSPControl should inspect the machine for installed services.
7. Save the server. Select Add Server and wait for registration to complete.

Configure server properties

After registration, open the server to configure:

• Server name and endpoint URL.
• Local-account or Active Directory provisioning settings.
• IP addresses, NAT addresses, and default gateways.
• Attached services such as websites, mail, FTP, and SQL Server.
• DNS record templates when this server provides DNS services.

Protect privileged credentials

The Server component performs privileged infrastructure operations. Restrict its endpoint, store its authentication password securely, and grant only the network access required by the Enterprise Server.

Verify the result

• The server appears in Settings → Servers.
• MSPControl can retrieve Server Info.
• The expected services can be attached and configured.
• Event Viewer and connection logs show no authentication or transport errors.

Troubleshooting

If registration fails, verify the URL, port, TLS certificate, firewall rules, Server component application pool, and password before trying again.

Server tools

Editing a server exposes a set of live tools under Server Tools. These act on the machine itself, not on its MSPControl record.

These act on a shared managed server

A managed server usually carries services for many customers. Stopping a service, ending a process or rebooting affects everyone hosted on that machine, and nothing on the screen names who that is.

Check which services the server runs — and therefore which customers — before using any of these. A reboot that looks like one customer’s fix is an outage for the rest.

Event Viewer first, not last

The event log is the one tool here that changes nothing. When a service is misbehaving it is worth reading before restarting anything, because a restart destroys the state that would have explained the fault.
