Linked records, deletion and reassignment

An asset carries tabs for the records attached to it — Asset Passwords, Asset Certificates, Asset Logs and Predecessors, the assets this one replaced.

Two actions sit outside those tabs:

• Reassign Asset moves an asset to a different owner or organization.
• Deleted Asset / Deleted Assets show what has been removed, so a deletion is recoverable as a record rather than simply gone.

Reassigning does not start the history over

An asset keeps its logs and its predecessor chain when it is reassigned. That is usually what you want — the machine’s past does not stop being true because it changed hands — but it does mean the new owner can see activity from before the transfer.
