Manage RDS User Sessions

Use the User Sessions tab of an RDS collection to review the sessions currently reported by its session hosts. The table shows the user name, host server, and session state. From the same view, you can refresh the table, send a message to a session, or log the user off.

Open the relevant customer organization, select RDS > Collections, open the collection, and then select User Sessions.

The current table provides:

  • User Name, including a visual marker when the account is identified as a VIP user;
  • Host Server, which identifies the session host;
  • Session State, such as active, connected, or disconnected;
  • Actions for sending a message or logging the user off.

User Name and Host Server are searchable and sortable. Select Refresh before taking action when the displayed state may be stale.

  1. Open the collection’s User Sessions tab.
  2. Find the session by user name and host server.
  3. Select the message action in that row.
  4. Enter the message and send it.
  5. Confirm that MSPControl reports a successful action.

Use messages to warn a connected user before maintenance or another disruptive host action. A successful send does not confirm that the user read the message.

  1. Refresh the User Sessions table.
  2. Confirm the exact user name, host server, and session state.
  3. Select Log Off for that row.
  4. Confirm the action when prompted.
  5. Wait for the success message, then refresh the table and verify that the session is no longer listed.

Select Refresh after a connection, disconnection, message, or logoff operation. The current interface classifies active or connected sessions separately from disconnected sessions, but the state value comes from the RDS environment and may take time to change.

If a session remains listed after a successful logoff response:

  1. refresh the table again;
  2. confirm that the user did not immediately reconnect;
  3. verify the host from RDS Servers;
  4. review the collection membership and assigned hosts in RDS Collections.
