Hosted SharePoint Server
MSPControl manages two editions, in separate menu groups with identical screens:
- SharePoint — the standard edition
- SharePoint Server — the enterprise edition
Which appears depends on which resource group the hosting plan provisions. An organization can have both.
Each offers three screens: Sharepoint Sites, Storage Usage and Storage Settings.
The sites screen lists the organization’s site collections and is where they are created, edited, backed up and restored.
A site collection is the unit of everything else here — it has its own storage allocation, its own backup, and its own URL.
Backup and restore
Section titled “Backup and restore”Site collections can be backed up and restored from the same screen. This is the mechanism to use before any change with a wide blast radius — a storage change, a bulk permission change, or a deletion.
Storage usage and settings
Section titled “Storage usage and settings”Storage Usage reports what the organization’s sites are consuming. Storage Settings is where the allocation is configured.
Hosted SharePoint storage comes from the hosting plan’s quota, so an organization approaching its limit is a commercial conversation as well as a technical one — either content is removed or the plan changes.
