Mailbox plans
A mailbox plan is a template applied when a mailbox is created. It sets the mailbox’s size limits and which features it gets, so you configure the shape of a mailbox once rather than on every mailbox.
Every mailbox is created against a plan. Most organizations need only two or three — a standard user, perhaps a larger one for people who keep everything, and a minimal one for shared or functional mailboxes.
What a plan controls

- Default settings applied at creation
Creating and editing plans
Section titled “Creating and editing plans”Exchange > Mailbox plans lists the organization’s plans. Add a plan, or open one to edit it.
Choosing a plan when creating a mailbox
Section titled “Choosing a plan when creating a mailbox”The plan is selected on the create mailbox screen. Pick deliberately: changing a mailbox’s limits later means editing the mailbox itself, on its Advanced tab, which is how estates end up with per-mailbox settings nobody can account for.
Plans and the consumer flag
Section titled “Plans and the consumer flag”Mailbox plans is one of the nine screens hidden for consumer spaces. Mailboxes in those spaces are still created against a plan — the customer simply cannot see or manage the plans themselves.
