Hosting space SharePoint

A hosting space can have its own SharePoint surface, reached from the Web menu rather than from Organizations. It offers two screens: SharePoint Sites and SharePoint Users.

This is a fourth SharePoint surface, and the names are identical

MSPControl presents SharePoint in four places: this space-level pair, and three organization-level products — hosted SharePoint Server in standard and enterprise editions, and SharePoint Online.

The screen labels are the same or nearly so across all of them. Before following any SharePoint procedure, confirm which menu you came from: Web for this one, Organizations for the others.

Sites

Site collections belonging to the hosting space rather than to a hosted organization. This is the older, space-scoped arrangement — a customer with no hosted organization can still have SharePoint here.

Users

The users with access to those sites, managed at space level.

Which surface should a customer be on?

Where an organization exists, the organization-level SharePoint is generally the right place — it sits alongside their other organization services and follows the same access model. The space-level surface remains for spaces provisioned before organizations were used, and for customers who have SharePoint without one.

They are not two views of the same sites

Sites created here do not appear under Organizations, and the reverse. Moving a customer between the two means moving content, not switching a setting.
